Well, this isn't as adventurous as your other topics, but can you recommend how to bike in the winter months, particularily when it's raining? I want to continue with this passion that I discovered in the summer of riding everywhere, but am afraid I'll ruin my bike after the first few rains. Any tips?

this is a very good question. I always got stymied in my bike commutes when the slush and ice would start sticking around, and end up driving again. and now that I live in seattle, the rains are already starting up again.

well, to be honest about it - i don't really know, as i don't even own a bike any more. common sense, it seems, would say that biking in the snow is rather dangerous. in the rain, i think you'd need to dress in a complete rain suit with a pants clip and including gore-tex sneakers, and it would probably be smart to wipe down your bike after using it. then again, if it's raining hard, given drivers lack of respect for cyclists, i'd stay off the bike in that situaton, as well.

Thanks for the reply, Mitch. Common sense usually does rule the day happy And Jill, I'm from up here in Vancouver, Canada, so I know what you mean about rain!

yeah, I am pretty much in a situation where I can walk for most things I need, so am thinking about a good rain outfit and some cool umbrellas. I have a transparent dome one that will be fun to walk under.

I was thinking about selling my car and getting a scooter, but that's the same situation as Mitch mentioned with a bike and cars.

Do you have some ideas for the winter, Lori?
