This is a great story. It's important to have places for people just starting out to learn. Our skiing here involves a steep learning curve and it would have been nice for me to start out in a place like this. Good news.

I've always felt a bit intimidated about skiing... it's like your choices are bunny slope or the real thing. I'd love to go to a beginner's place... especially with kids!

This is a great story. I actually live an hour away from a similar ski lodge. There are very few runs and they are relatively easy to navigate, even if your skills are mediocre. The best thing is that the major ski resorts (Telluride, Aspen, etc.) are only an extra hour drive so the really good skiers drive the extra distance. The local slope is covered with kids, families and people trying to learn new skills.

thanks for the feedback, guys. the truth is that some ski sites are far better than others for learning. but, particularly for kids, a local ski hill that can be visited regularly - either after school or weekends - is the simplest and best way to start. it's a bit much to ask people to pack up, drive or fly hundreds of miles, and spend a bunch of $$ to do something they've not done before.

Good points. I think where we just moved (Asheville, NC) has some good options nearby, but you would probably know better.
