» Feature Writer Jodi Gallegos - Too Many Choices

Thank you for the information. I've always felt that there were too many choices for someone of my knowledge and skill level. I think it really put me off about buying anything new.
It doesn't help that the salespeople get completely exasperated when you don't really speak the lingo. I don't want to make this my life or career, I just want to learn to snowboard. I actually enjoy being a novice (greater falls and story-telling potential!).

well, i'm a bit slow in responding to this, jodi, but i agree with you 100%. but, it's not unique to snowsports - jsut try buying a digital camera or a laptop. it's become ubiquitous.

I agree this is a real problem, especially in anything that someone can be an expert in.

It's also not just exclusive to shops. I find the same thing when I take less knowledgeable people to fine dining establishments or wineries for tastings. I think BOTH of those things should be totally fun, and get annoyed at people who take themselves way too seriously. So what if someone doesn't know how to pronounce foie gras or merlot? Teach them, let them try it and have fun with it! It's especially silly to me with wine people. I'm a BIG wine aficianado, but when we stop enjoying wine, we should stop drinking it! Please!
