Most people don't go shopping for winter skiing or snowboard gear on summer's hottest day.
But, why not?
Ever wander into a ski or board shop in July when the thermometer's pushing 100 and most of your friends are either at the beach or a swimming in a pool somewhere?
You oughta. The place'll be pretty empty. And, the staff just might be a little bored. All the better for you - because buying ski or snowboard gear requires thought, an in-depth exchange of ideas and information, and - most importantly - time and patience. What better way to attain those elements than in a quiet store during the heart of off-season?
Yeah, yeah - the store's stock will be low. Yeah, yeah, you might not find exactly what you need or want.
But, then again, you might.
Talk to the salesperson. Tell him/her what kind of a slider you are, and what kind of slider you aspire to be. Tell him/her <it>why<it> you love to ride or ski. Chances are there'll be something in stock for you. Chances are it'll be nicely discounted.
Or - maybe they have your perfect boots, skis or board in next season's stock. No discount there - but you'll be at the cutting edge.
At the very least, if the shop's worth its salt, you'll come away with a sense of what you should be looking for when the time comes to make your purchase.
So, next time the temperature takes on hellish qualities, duck into your local snowsports retailer. Not to worry - the place'll be air conditioned. And, not only will you cool off, but you'll forget those winter enthusiast's summertime blues.
And, you'll give that salesperson an interesting way to pass the time.
