Pray for Eastern Snow

Abundant snow is falling on ski resorts out there, but not in the East.

While show falls in the Western U.S. and Canada, Eastern skiers and snowboarders must wait. And wait.

Are these the times that try Eastern skiers’ souls?

Yes, they are.

Because when we Eastern skiers and snowboarders get news like this from northern Idaho’s Schweitzer Mountain, in which we are informed that Thanksgiving Snowstorm Blankets Schweitzer with 40 Inches of Snow, and we look around us to find a mere handful of ski areas open with but a run or two each, it’s enough to make us cry.

We want to ski.

In Colorado, Winter Park has already received 62-plus inches and expects more tomorrow. And Wolfe Creek has a 48-inch base.

British Columbia’s Whistler/Blackcomb has already received 165 centimeters (whatever that means in inches).

We want to ski now!

Meanwhile, in Vermont, Killington is less than 10 percent open. Mount Snow is five percent open. And, New Hampshire’s Loon, Waterville and Cranmore are "opening soon."

It’s enough to make a body move west.

But, for now, I guess, we’ll just have to be patient. And pray for Eastern snow.
