Is Reno, Nevada, really a ski town? An upcoming journey may well provide the answer.

Reno, Nevada. Ski town?

Once upon a long time ago, my late Aunt Gwen traveled to Reno to obtain a divorce. For years, Reno held that connotation for me.

Until I flew there about eight years back—and again two winters ago—to ski.

But, I didn’t stay there. Just de-planed and headed the first time for Mammoth Mountain and, the second time, for South Tahoe.

Tomorrow (Wed., 1/3/07) I’m off to Reno again. And, yes, we’ll be skiing at Tahoe, both North and South.

But, first we’ll spend the night and ski Mt. Rose. And, we’ll finish the trip in Reno, as well.

So, here’s where we find out if slot machines, casino shows, the big nightlife and hangovers can mix with skiing, snowboarding and handling high elevation.

If the Internet gods are with me, I’ll be reporting along the way.

Meanwhile, the weather forecast for Thursday calls for a foot of snow in the high peaks. Fingers, toes and eyes are crossed that the weathermen know which way the wind blows—and snow falls.
