Silver Star Mountain Resort in British Columbia has been named as the favorite Nordic destination of the US Ski Nordic Team, according to a poll released by Fastskier.com
Silver Star Mountain Resort, located in British Columbia’s Okanagan Valley, has been picked as the favorite Nordic destination of the US Ski Nordic Team.
Favorite trails and places to ski were solicited from athletes Andrew Newell, Torin Koos, Andrew Johnson and Kris Freeman; coach Chris Grover; and the team's Director, Luke Bodensteiner. The poll was released on Fasterskier.com and broadcast across major news websites like msnbc.com and Forbestraveler.com.
Silver Star topped a list that included notable resorts like Royal Gorge Cross Country Ski Resort, California, the Sun Valley Nordic Center, Idaho, and Soldier Hollow, Utah—site of the 2002 Winter Olympics.
The Fasterskier.com poll concluded that "while the current trend in ski trail design for racing and training is to create short loops for sprinting and spectator-friendly courses, it appears that the top racers still appreciate the long, scenic trails."
Set about an hour's drive from Kelowna International Airport, Silver Star cross country skiing accesses more than 65 miles (100 kilometres) of track-set trails for skating or classical skiing. The resort boasts one of North America’s longest Nordic seasons.
