Okemo Resort adds ice skating, swimming and fitness to its menu of family fun and recreation options by opening a new ice rink and swim/fitness center.
Vermont’s Okemo Mountain Resort continues to expand the off-snow recreational options for skiers and snowboarders, with the opening of two facilities for ice skating, fitness and aquatic fun.
Spring House, a fitness and aquatic center, and The Ice House skating rink and sports arena, debuted a few weeks ago at Okemo’s Jackson Gore base area.
"The recent improvements to Jackson Gore make Okemo a fun place to visit for skiers and non-skiers alike—at all times of the day," commented Jackson Gore General Manager Charlie Dickerman. "These new features also add a new dimension for four-season travelers and for conference and convention visitors as we look to the future."
Ice House, a regulation-sized hockey rink and recreational ice skating pavilion, is set in a pre-engineered steel structure. It houses a 115 by 215-foot skating rink in winter and a tennis court and basketball court, surrounded by a single-lane jogging track, in summer.
A connected building features a gas-fueled fireplace for skaters to warm themselves while enjoying a hot beverage. Antique ice harvesting tools decorate the walls in tribute to Vermont’s history.
Skate rentals are available and an ice resurfacing machine keeps the skating surface smooth and in top condition.
Spring House at Jackson Gore is a two-level, 18,000-square-foot fitness and aquatic center, featuring a recreational swimming pool with lap lanes during designated swim times, a children’s pool with a whimsical frog slide and numerous splash and water fountain features, and a ten-person hot tub.
The facility houses locker rooms, saunas, a multi-purpose studio for fitness classes, a large room for weights and cardio equipment, a racquetball court, and a small juice bar called The Well.
Use of the Spring House is complimentary to all Jackson Gore guests and to guests staying in the Okemo mountainside neighborhoods that don’t have their own swim/fitness facilities. Neighborhoods that have their own facilities (such as Solitude) will not have complimentary use of the Spring House. The Spring House is open to the general public on a membership basis.
