Okemo Resort's new Epic Restaurant at Solitude brings new slopeside gourmet cuisine to skiers and snowboarders, plus cooking classes right on the mountain.
Ski resorts and fine dining, are apparently becoming synonymous.
And, now, the ski and snowboard aficionados at Okemo Resort in Vermont will not only show you how to dine with elan, they’ll show you how to cook with style, as well.
On December 20, 2006, Okemo Resort co-owner Diane Mueller will host the first of four instructional sessions called the Cooking School at Epic.
Epic is the ski resort’s newest slopeside restaurant, one that will offer a eclectic and creative menu highlighted by "tasting" entrees designed to introduce diners to the eatery’s wide range of offerings.
The Cooking School at Epic’s first session, entitled Deck the Halls with Cookies, is open to 24 students. It’s conceived to get participants into the holiday spirit as Diane shares her favorite holiday recipes for Christmas cookies. She guarantees that skiing/riding bakers will go home with a few dozen delicious cookies.
After class, everyone is invited to join her and husband Tim for eggnog, cocktails and hors d’oeuvres that sample Epic’s menu.
The other four Cooking School at Epic classes, called Dinner with Class, are limited to nine students. Chef Craig Cornell will showcase his skills and teach preparation of a restaurant style entree. Students receive a recipe card that enables them to prepare the gourmet meal at home.
"We intend to become the Deer Valley of the East," Diane Mueller has said of Okemo’s slopeside and on-slope dining options, citing the Utah resort famous for its superb culinary offerings.
Maybe they’ll also become the slopeside Le Cordon Bleu.
