A major snowstorm last week has provided welcome snow cover for all wintersport enthusiasts-and for the businesses that depend on them.

Across the Northeast, snowmobilers, skiers, snowboarders, Nordic skiers and snowshoers are rejoicing. The snowstorm that swept across the northeast last week has brought prime conditions to snowmobile trails, Nordic trails and ski resorts across the region.

But, from a business perspective, perhaps the best result from this storm is that—snowmobiling lives! The snow has opened snowmobile trails across northern New York and New England.

This news release from the state of New Hampshire says it all:

NH Bureau of Trails Announces Snowmobile Trails at 100%

The NH Bureau of Trails announces that 100% of New Hampshire’s snowmobile trails are now open for use. With Wednesday’s storm totals ranging from 8-36" across the state, the trails all have sufficient snow cover for riding. The volunteer clubs and Bureau staff have been out packing and grooming the new snow to have trails ready for this weekend.

"Winter is not over by any measure, and even though this season is late in arriving, riders are anxious to hit the trails," stated Chris Gamache, Bureau of Trails Chief. "The Bureau encourages riders to get out and enjoy the winter season that has finally arrived to New Hampshire’s trails, and reminds snowmobile enthusiasts to ride responsibly."

Check out the Bureau’s website for updated riding conditions.

Early winter’s snow drought effects have been felt far beyond sledders feeling deprived as a result of not being able to get out on the trail.

The economic effects are also huge. Just a month ago the NY Times featured an article entitled "Warm Days and Hard Times in Snowmobile Land" that documented the economic effects of bad snow on small businesses across Vermont and the northland.

Some of those consequences were noted in the blog Singing the No Snow Blues.

While last week’s storm may be a bit "too little - too late," it’s better than no snow at all.
