Poor weather postpones the Killington Resort's first major on-snow contest, the Rails to Riches Rail Jam, which has been re-scheduled for Saturday, December 16, 2006.
The second annual Killington Rails to Riches Rail Jam—originally scheduled for December 2, and reported here on November 15—has been postponed to Saturday, Dec. 16 due to unfavorable weather conditions for snowmaking.
"While the skiing and riding on our open terrain is in great shape, we have not been able to make snow on the lower slope of the Highline Trail for Rails to Riches," said Josh Arneson, events manager for Killington Resort. "With colder temperatures and snow moving in this weekend, we will have the Rails to Riches venue in top shape for December 16th with numerous features for the athletes to show their talents."
Registration for Rails to Riches is full with more than 70 skiers and riders expected to compete.
The top prize for both male categories is $4,000, with $1,000 going to each of the first place women skiers and riders.
The schedule for the day will remain the same and the Party at the Peak and fireworks will all take place on Saturday, December 16. The finals will begin at 5:00 p.m. with fireworks slated to start at 6:15 p.m.
