The New Yorker Magazine presents three February days of cartooning and humor at Colorado's Beaver Creek Resort.

Six of the best-known cartoonists of The New Yorker present three hilarious days of wry observation and illustrated storytelling in Beaver Creek, Colorado, at Beaver Creek Ski Resort, during Humor on the Slopes, Feb. 23-25, 2007.

In its second year, the program will feature a headline performance from five-time Emmy Award winner Dennis Miller.

Stand Up Comedy Night features live performances from Comedian of the Year Craig Shoemaker and Kathleen Madigan, voted Best Female Stand-Up at the American Comedy Awards.

Participating cartoonists include:

Samples of each artist's work are available at Cartoonbank.com.

At a Humor on the Slopes Caption Contest, artists will provide a snow-or winter-sports-themed illustrations without a caption. Guests are invited to submit captions to the cartoons of their choice. The winners will be given the original art, signed by the cartoonist and hand-lettered with their caption.

Guests can also enjoy intimate dialogues with their favorite cartoonists, and can take home custom drawings from daily Cartoons and Cocktails events.

Got kids? Cartoonists Bliss and Diffee will entertain the younger set with daily Kid-tooning events and more.

In addition, guests will have the opportunity to view an upcoming comedy film release.

The fun continues with a rowdy celebration of the just-released book "The Rejection Collection: Cartoons You Never Saw and Never Will See in The New Yorker."

The book’s editor, Matthew Diffee, and his colleagues provide an entertaining look into the creation, submission, and decision-making process for cartoons you see—and don’t see—in the magazine.

The Rejection Collection Show features audience participation and a rare opportunity to watch cartoonists competing and collaborating.

Most Humor on the Slopes events are free and open to the public.

Tickets are available for purchase to Friday’s Stand Up Comedy Night and Saturday’s Dennis Miller Headline Performance, preceded by The Rejection Collection Show.

Sunday’s Comedy Film Sneak Preview is a ticketed event, free of charge. To purchase tickets, long on to the Vilar Center for the Arts or call 970-845-TIXS.

Jill Browne :
This humour on the slopes thing sounds like a lot of fun.

I wonder if it was started as a way of giving everyone in the family something to do at the hill. Not everyone loves to ski, but ski hills are often beautiful places to just "be".

Thanks for the original spin on a ski holiday.

jill-- not to be cynical about it, but i think it generates from an upscale resort trying to provide diverse arts-cultural evetns for aits sophisticated clientele. the vilars center is one beautiful facility and they stage some major concerts and productins there. by now, most major ski resorts offer a bundle of off-snow activities (especially shopping) for the very reason you state. beaver creek adds this unique performing arts aspect. either way, sounds like fun.
